Refiloe Maele Phoolo (born 16 December 1990, in Mafikeng), professionally known as Cassper Nyovest, is a South African recording artist and record producer. His debut album Tsholofelo was released on 18 July 2014. He is currently signed to his own independent label and media company, Family Tree.
Nyovest grew up in Montshiwa in Mafikeng, the capital city of the North West province. He attended high school at Sol Plaatje Secondary School. In school, he was athletic as he partook in various sports activities including football, cricket and basketball. He started rapping when he was in grade 6, at the age of 12.
When the South African born rapper, announced that he will be working on a joint with Jason Derulo we were thrilled. We were also excited to learn that he was the only South African act chosen by Coca Cola to create a global anthem for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Cassper had plenty to say about the collaboration and adding his unique flavour to the song. “In South Africa, we’ve got so many different backgrounds, and so we put all our colours and everything we could have thought of into it and it turned out great; shout out to Coca – Cola for bringing this together,” he said.
The video for the song does not disappoint. There are plenty of colours, dancing, smiling faces and a carnival-esqe vibe to it that we appreciate. We heard the Vuvuzela, heard Cassper proudly represents that South African lingo and saw him dancing the Thuso Phala (Supersports United soccer player) dance.
