Sho Madjozi, known to her parents as Maya Wegerif, she was born to a Tsonga mom and a white father. She hails from the dusty streets Elim in Limpopo but now based in Jozi.
Sho Madjozi is a breath of fresh air to the music industry while she swells with pride, singing in Tsonga. She is a young woman who takes pride in her culture and identity; she’s famous for her unique music, a Rapper in her own language Xitsonga.
The Dumi Hi Phone hit-maker is continuing on her fairytale rise to the upper echelons of the industry and has now been featured by popular American magazine, The Fader.
Sho Madjozi is breaking all the boundaries; not only was she featured on the digital version of the NYC-based tabloid; she was completely shocked to have gotten the print version with her feature as well. She took to social media platform, Twitter, to inform her fans as well as express her own surprise about the feature.
With the massive growth of the South African music industry in recent times, Sho Madjozi remains one of the acts making the waves on the international front across the pond.
In March this year [2018], Sho Madjozi was announced as one of the performers to headline this year’s Afropunk Brooklyn Music Festival which will be held in Brooklyn, New York, USA on the 25th and 26th of August 2018.
